Issue 105 New Year edition

There’s such a big mix of stuff featured this issue. From our cover stars Crowbar, relieved to finally see ‘new’ album Zero And Below released from its two-year isolation period, to Immolation – whose latest is already being tipped as a serious ‘best album of 2022’ contender despite it not being even a quarter of the way through the year. Then there’s Blood Incantation talking about their two-track ambient album that suddenly dropped – as if from nowhere… a bit like a UFO? And Peter Tägtgren occupying the last words of the issue as he shares some of the highs and lows of his Hypocrisy career with Zoltar.

Reading through all the layouts this issue as we prep them for press reminded me just how fortunate we are to have such a dedicated, unpretentious group of writers at ZT. They really do live and breathe all that they convey here in ink. And as the world hurtles to hell in a handcart, they never fail to keep on going – finding new music, collaring the well-seasoned, and listening to all the shit (questionable and not) that we chuck at them to review. During this issue’s production a good few of them were struck down with covid; down but not out though – they still managed to deliver the goods despite feeling totally wiped out for a while. For that we’re eternally grateful as it means you are able to get stuck into the 116 pages you’re holding in your hands.

On that note, I’m signing off for now, but not before I mention that Will’s managed to introduce us to yet another amazing visual artist, Lisa Wallert, whose eeriely beautiful work – see below – is profiled in this issue’s Inside Information section. If you’re wondering about his whereabouts, Alan Averill got a little caught up this issue, but don’t worry, he’s already busy resurrecting Morbid Angel’s back catalogue for next issue’s Call From The Grave feature. Lastly, don’t forget to keep an eye on ztmag.com – longtime writer Paul Castles has been making sure there’s plenty going on in cyberspace too as ZT’s resident Online Content Curator.
