Issue 106 Spring edition

Well, I’ve nothing very profound to add here. I can state the obvious though, and that’s that there are a lot of very chunky releases just out and coming up; the list of contents is eye-popping – just look over there to your right. That said, even though this has been a gruelling deadline to get through, I’m feeling strangely energised having seen Emperor at Incineration Festival ‘tuther day.

I can’t begin to explain how comforting it was getting caught up in massive unmasked crowds as we exited and entered venues across Camden Town – it honestly felt as though the last couple of years could have all been a bad dream. OK, so I didn’t spot Bobby Ewing on my jaunt, but it was by far the most back-to-normal I’ve felt in a very long time. And to top it all, as well as managing to take in a characteristicly eccentric Akercocke set at the Electic Ballroom, while catching up with veteran past-ZT writer Alex de Moller – who’s threatening to tackle a few features, be warned – Emperor played an utterly gobsmackingly brilliant set at the Roundhouse, which curiously left me feeling strangely emotional! It’s also left me with a new sense of vigour and after the shitshow we’ve all experienced recently, I’m really looking forward to getting more excellent editions of the magazine into your hands.

Until next time!
