ZT INTERROGATION: VENOMOUS CONCEPT ON NEW ALBUM

Venomous Concept

It was almost two years ago when we spoke to Venomous Concept about their third album. At the time of that report, the band were in the recording studio, with views of releasing it early in 2014. Two years later, the album is finally ready to hit the shelves in January 2016 via Season of Mist!

Venomous Concept are a hardcore punk grind band composed of veterans of the genre: Kevin Sharp (Brutal Truth) spits unparalleled phlegm, Shane Embury (Napalm Death among many others) crushes six string beauties, Danny Herrera (Napalm Death) smashes the drums and cymbals, and Dan Lilker (Nuclear Assault, Brutal Truth and a million others) digs earth tunnels with his bass guitar. Oh, and Johnny Cheeseburger of Corrupt Moral Altar has now joined the band as a second guitarist, too! The press-release bears the following statement by the band: “It’s been a long time coming, distractions happen, chaos happens… life happens… But hey, still here – still killing it… still grinding… couldn’t be more happy to be with Michael and Gordon and the Season of Mist people… Couldn’t think of anyone better suited to get our friends and family the attitude adjustment they needed… so I hope you guys check it out… throw a few pints down and smash… we sure did.. be sure to bring your drinking money to the show… Ook!!! likes to drink…”

Ook is the band’s new mascot, a pissed-off bipedal hedgehog.

Pulling himself together after the excitement of the news, yours truly contacted the band for some extra information. The chapter of the extreme sound that answers to the name Shane Embury replied:

“Wow, I didn’t  realize we started recording the album that long ago… A lot of that’s to do with my schedule and Napalm, also Kevin tracking the vocals was a longer process as Brutal truth were finishing their last run as a band all over the world so we had to record bits and pieces over time.”

As for the end product… “One thing I can say is that with Dan Lilker writing a few of the tunes this time around  and myself and John Cooke of Corrupt Moral Altar playing guitars… it’s made a difference in the sound and the attack on the songs – it feels more like a real band. Production was handled again by my long-time friend Russ Russel and he has pushed the over-driven punk sound with this one again even further so I think it’s more intense than Poisoned Apple and the song are, I hope, more varied…”

Future plans? “Expect some show in January!!”

Venomous Concept’s new album is called Kick Me Silly and can be pre-ordered here.
