US death/doom pioneers Winter have reformed and will play a set at Roadburn Festival next year. The band gained a cult following after their early demise in 1992 and have been dormant since. Roadburn curators Sunn O))), who are choosing this year’s bands said: “[we are] honored to present the first part of our guests for the curated day at Roadburn, April 15th 2011. They represent a broad range of bands we are fans of, and in many cases some of our closest friends and collaborators. We hope you appreciate the selection, and look forward to announcing more of our selection and allies…” Hailing from New York City, Winter made their mark when they released a self-titled demo in 1989 to a largely apathetic scene. Their trademark blend of death/doom was ahead of its time until fellow US pioneers Autopsy brought further attention to the sound. The band are currently signed to Nuclear Blast, but there is some speculation that they will sign to a different label in the near future.
