The almighty Down, hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana, currently has their new EP online and available for streaming at this location. Titled “Down IV Part I – The Purple EP” and due on the streets September 18th, the band had incorporated a new approach releasing their material for the next short while by releasing a series of EPs rather than a full-length album. As explained by drummer Jimmy Bower in an interview with ZT in May “They’re all going to have kind of a concept; even the artwork altogether makes kind of a concept.”
What can fans expect from this series of EPs? In short, an exploration by the band into their different musical elements, such as “old-school NOLA” EP, a “total doom” EP, and even an acoustic set which Bower explained had been in the discussion phase for a while, but the band “never got around to it.”
Down, originally formed in 1991, is comprised of New Orleans’ metal heavyweights – namely Pepper Keenan of Corrosion of Conformity fame, Kirk Windstein of Crowbar, Jimmy Bower of Eyehategod, and Phil Anselmo of Pantera/Superjoint Ritual. During the band’s time, three different bassists have filled in, including Todd Strange (ex-Crowbar), Rex Brown (Pantera), and now features current Crowbar bassist Pat Bruders, making his Down debut with this new EP.
