Prog/thrash titans Voivod have recently announced the cancellation of their scheduled February and March shows due to vocalist Denis “Snake” Belanger undergoing treatment for diverticulitis. Commenting on the cancellations, the band stated “Voivod has had to postpone any shows for the immediate future as Snake needs 4-6 weeks rest due to a procedure for diverticulitis, a common digestive disease. This affects the MS Benefit in Ottawa and the SXSW shows, this should not affect the Santiago, Chile MetalFest appearance in April. More tour news to be announced shortly.”
Diverticulitis is a rather common digestive disorder in the large intestine caused by the formation of pouches on the outside of the colon that become inflamed and cause pain in the abdomen. It is commonly treated through antibiotics in addition to surgery in severe cases.
Voivod recently released their 13th full-length studio album in January entitled “Target Earth.” This album marks the return of their previous bassist Jean-Yves “Blacky” Thériault, who left the group in 1991 after the release of their “Angel Rat” album. Blacky replaces their previous bassist, Jason “Jasonic” Newsted, who departed the group in 2008 after 6 years, and appeared on their self-titled, “Katorz,” and “Infini” albums.
