The UK’s doom legends Solstice have never been the most prolific of bands in terms of output. But what is undeniable is when something comes along, it exudes quality and class. Greatness can never be rushed.
June 20th 2016, the Summer Solstice, sees the the band release an online version (as well as a very small physical release) of their latest pre-production demo entitled “To Sol A Thane“. The songs which make up this recording will form part of their upcoming album “White Horse Hill“.
Founder member Rich Walker stated: “As ever, things move at a glacial pace within the Solstice camp, and because we were so pleased with the results of the latest demo we opted to actually release these versions and create a short run 12″ vinyl with luxurious hand screen printed sleeves on our own White Horse record label.
There is no criteria for receiving one of the 12” records other than having extended a hand to help [the band] at some point in the past, or being extremely supportive of our endeavours. Naturally, the number of people we would like to send a copy to far exceeds the 100 copies we have made, but our meagre budget has been swallowed by the recording costs of all the pre-production demos we have been making.
However, to offset the costs of what we do, we are offering the digital version of this demo at a ‘pay what you want’ price. All monies earned will be going towards the final recording and mastering costs of the “White Horse Hill” LP. We refuse to take handouts from labels we choose to work with, preferring to clearly own the rights to our back catalogue ourselves; we finance our own recordings and rely on sales to pay for our recording activities.”
You can get the download by visiting the Solstice Bandcamp page.
“White Horse Hill” (tentatively scheduled for late ’16) will be released on Invictus Productions in Europe, and Dark Descent Records in North America on vinyl, cassette and CD.
