Seminal grunge band Soundgarden, have announced, via their official site that they will be scheduling an appearance at this years Download Festival held between June 8th – 10th. The announcement came several hours before the official Download release which also included the newly reformed Ugly Kid Joe, as well as Canadian oddball Devin Townsend amongst other big names such as Virginian metallers, Lamb of God.

Cornell and Co. have been working away on a new record that will allegedly see the light of day sometime later this year, following on from Cornell’s post in February 2011, which stated. “We have some cool new songs that we are going to record very soon.” The band’s date at Donnington is one of many, in what is turning out to be a busy summer for the Seattle noise-mongers with dates previously announced for Rock Am Ring, Pinkpop and Sweden Rock Festival as well as other major European festivals.

The band is billed to play Download Festival on Sunday 10th of June.
