Old school death metal ‘supergroup’ Gruesome have inked a deal with Relapse Records to release their debut album sometime next year.
Heavily influenced by the early work of Death, the band was brought together by Exhumed’s Matt Harvey and ex-Malevolent Creation drummer Gus Rios after working on the Death To All tours together. Rather than continue to cover Death classics the duo decided to start writing their own material but in a similar vein to that of Death’s first two albums.
A statement from Relapse says: “We’re stoked to announce the signing of Gruesome, the old-school death metal supergroup headed by Exhumed’s Matt Harvey and featuring current and former members of Malevolent Creation and Possessed! The band will be heading to Florida this summer to record their debut full-length which is slated for release early next year. Until then, stay tuned for more info and blast that demo!”
Possessed guitarist Daniel Gonzalez and Derketa bassist Robin Mazen make up the other half of Gruesome (with Harvey on guitars/vocals). Two tracks, Savage Land and Closed Casket are available to listen to online here and the Death influence is clear even from their band logo too!
Any old school Floridian death metal fans would be fools not to check them out.
