As announced on 15 June 2015, Tim Yeung has left Morbid Angel. Tim Yeung first appeared as the band’s drummer in 2011’s Illud Divinum Insanus, replacing long-time skin-basher Pete “Commando” Sandoval.
Yeung made the following statement: “I’ve been waiting to break the news for a while about this. Now seems like the proper time to do so. As some of you know, there have been some lineup changes with Morbid Angel. Unfortunately, due to financial differences, I will not be continuing with them. It has been a great five years being involved with Morbid Angel. I’ve met a ton of great people all over the world, played some amazing shows, and have a ton of great memories as well as stories. I wish Trey (Azagthoth, guitar) and Morbid Angel all the best. As for myself, I’m always up for the next opportunity life throws my way.”
Rumours are already surfacing that Pete Sandoval may be returning to the fold but this looks rather improbable as Morbid Angel is a band with a definite Satanic message and a born-again-Christian would not fit in there, in singer’s David Vincent’s words.
Funnily, the line-up changes that Yeung is referring to include David Vincent. Slightly earlier than Yeung’s announcement, news were spreading that Vincent had himself left the band to be replaced by Morbid Angel’s other singer, Steve Tucker. Tucker did make a celebratory post on his facebook page to announce that he is making music with Trey Azagthoth again (“Yes! It is true. I am happy to announce that Trey and I are both stoked to be making music together, again?! Thank you for all of the great messages of support that I have received! To the haters, suck it!!! Again!”). David Vincent has nevertheless denied the rumours, stating that “I am aware of Trey Azagthoth’s announcement of a collaboration with Steve Tucker on new music. However, the inference that I have left Morbid Angel is incorrect. To be clear, I have not left Morbid Angel nor have I been asked to do so.”
Nevertheless, the post at Morbid Angel’s page reads: “Update! Trey is excited to announce that he and Steve Tucker are working together again for Morbid Angel and the next record will certainly be an amazingly sick world beater. Hi5!”
Who will be the new Morbid Angel drummer? Should we be expecting some new project from Azagthoth and Tucker? Something that Azagthoth, Tucker and Vincent will do together perhaps?
Time will tell. Stay tuned.
Thanks for dropping in!
