ILLUD DIVINUM RETARDUS: VINCENT STILL IN DENIAL

They couldn’t admit they were wrong. They couldn’t just let it die a silent (but embarrassing) death. No, the beast that is/once was Morbid (and SO sordid!) Angel is not dying slowly, or quietly.

.

Mangled screams wretch out from its impotent being, begging to be put out of its misery, ringing louder than the obnoxious industrial stomp of ‘Illud Divinum Insanus’, an album that makes atrocities like ‘Cold Lake’ or ‘St. Anger’ seem like Everests of musical achievement.

.

The only person, it seems, who can’t hear these cries of despair is the leader of the Radikult himself, David Vincent. Speaking in a recent interview, “Evil D” stated: “One thing about Morbid Angel is that there’s never been any rules and it’s an interesting perspective. We just kind of go in and do what we do, and sometimes it blossoms; every flower is a different color and a different smell. This album, it surprises people, a couple of tracks on there, and then there’s a couple of other tracks that are as Morbid Angel as you can get.”

.

Yes, Dave, many were indeed “surprised” by this record (so much so, that your lawyers had to CALM them down) and it was definitely a “flower” of a “different smell”. What that smell was, however…

.

“People are coming around. It was slow going at first — people were going, “What are these guys doing here?” and night after night, I’m getting comments, people are like, “I finally really listened to it and I really like it. It just took me a while.” That’s no different than some of the other records we’ve done in the past, so everything is going as planned.”

.

If the plan was to create the soundtrack to a Holocaust, then my mistake, everything is indeed going as planned and you’re right on track (trust me, I know this, I’m from Aberdeen – the cultural Auschwitz of Scotland).

.

Morbid Angel are currently on tour where, if there was a god, they would bump into a paroled Nathan Gale.

DISCLAIMER: The opinions of Daragh MORBID Markham are often TOO EXTREME but are his own and not necessarily those of ZT, who he bangs HARDCORE RADIKULT for.
