We’ve joined forces with This Charming Man Records to videopremiere the track ‘Wolves At The Door’ from Heads’ new full-length album Collider.
The band had this to say about the track: “‘Wolves At The Door’ is the sister song to ‘Last Gasp Shout’, also on the record. Both of these songs are the story of a torment, driven through the desert, told from the perspective of two different characters on the ride. The video for ‘Wolves At The Door’ was made by Henrik Eichmann, we shot it together over two long days at the end of winter in Germany – first in Rangsdorf, which is an abandoned Soviet airport near Berlin – and then back in Berlin at Tiefgrund, which is one of our favourite venues here. Henrik used a lot of mirrors and projections to get some unique shots with the band, and he’s done an amazing job of capturing the spirit of the song in this video.”
With Collider the German-Australian trio present ten songs that carry an atmosphere of restrained anger and maturity, capturing a sombre narrative that continues to resonate and leave the listener pondering: “The 10 songs on Collider were written over the last two years or so,” say the band. “It’s kind of a weird setup for us now as it’s very rare that the three of us are in the same city at the same time these days. These songs all come from a bleak place, they’re all interconnected in one way or another, there are a lot of recurring themes here. Last year we recorded the whole album over nearly three weeks with Jan Kerscher at Ghost City in Germany, it lives up to its name – there’s not a whole lot else to do out there apart from be in the studio, by the end we definitely felt like we were in some weird three person version of The Shining. We tracked the music live together, and pushed each other to create tension within the music, to try and get that feeling that the songs are all about to come through.”
With members spread out across the globe (Hamburg, Berlin and Melbourne), the band adjusted their writing and recording process to accommodate work schedules and extended family visits. On top of this, Collider features a whole string of guest musicians who infuse the record with extra fresh sounds. Kevin Whitley from US noise rockers Cherubs joins the band on ‘Smile’, while Luc Hess (Kunz + Closet Disco Queen + ex-The Ocean) lends his incredible drumming to ‘Youth’ and ‘To Call And Let It Ring’. Emilie Zoë (solo + Autisti) and Fabian Bremer (Radare + graphic design) bring the haunting qualities of their musicianship to ‘Wolves At The Door’. All of this is held together by an impeccable mix and mastering by the one-and-only Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna).
