FOR THOSE UNABLE TO ROCK: LIVING WITH DISFIGUREMENT Q&A

Forming in 2005, Living With Disfigurement play a nasty ‘n’ furious death metal that they brand “sickening oldschool gore metal”. After 2009’s ‘Thrill To The Terror Of Death’ EP, the band went on hiatus. They have recently reactivated, however, and ZT caught up with mainman gorelord Eddie Spengler ahead of their upcoming show supporting Cannabis Corpse and Ghoul at the Underworld Camden…

.

.

ZT: Firstly, what have you fuckers been up to? What was going on between 2009, when you took a break from gigging, and when you resumed live activities late last year?

.

ES: Oh, hi Daragh. Tom [McKitrick, guitars] tried out for us after we recorded the EP but we’d kind of run out of steam and decided to pack it in. I ran into him at Maryland Deathfest in 2010 and got chatting to him again. A while later we started Gout [DRUNK EDGE PARTY GORE] and when Kiran [Lakhotia, drums] wanted to do LWD again Tom was the obvious choice. Tom played with Ed [Weech, bass] in MAW too and Ed was into the tunes so he was in the band.

.

ZT: How did your appearance at Blastonbury 2012 go? Have Ed and Tom settled into the bass and guitar duties?

.

ES: Blastonbury was wicked. The whole fest was more like a big party, but then everyone got ill afterwards. Tom and Ed have settled in fine, it sounds as good as it ever has.

.

ZT: Tell us about the Cannabis Corpse/Ghoul gig coming up at the Underworld, what can we expect? Any new material? How do you think this gig will compare to others?

.

ES: The gig should be ace from start to finish. There’ll be a few songs that aren’t on the EP, but nothing we haven’t played before in these most recent shows. We should write some new tunes some time. Maybe we will. It’s the biggest gig we’ve played with this line up but it should be the most fun. [We’re excited to play the Underworld], never played there before and it’s always fun to play venues you’ve seen ace gigs at.

.

ZT: How did the gig turn into almost an all-dayer?

.

ES: The gig was booked but not announced. When that Master gig got announced for the same day it got moved to Saturday. More time, more bands.

.

ZT: Tell us about the bands playing. The scumbags in Bastardhammer are kin to you, right?

.

ES: The bands are varied but all really good. It’s a mix of death, thrash, grind and punk, and then there’s Ghoul and Cannabis Corpse. So there’s a whole range of stuff but I don’t think anyone sounds out of place. Bastardhammer are neither our kin nor our friends. Their singer punched my gran in her false teeth and their guitarist stole all me weed.

.

ZT: Tell us about your upcoming gig with DESECRATION, and your appearence at CHIMPYFEST

.

ES: The Desecration gig will be fun, the BTK lads always do a good job with their all dayers so we’re definitely glad to be on that. Chimpy Fest looks great too. I think they’re trying to make a bigger deal of it this year; moving out of the Grosvenor and having a more varied lineup… there are a lot of ace bands playing, well worth a weekend trip to London for anyone thinking of it so hopefully it should be a big one.

.

ZT: Is there a new LWD release on the horizon?

.

ES: Not just yet. We’ve got 3 new songs written since the EP, which is pretty slack. If we don’t get more written soon we might record them and do a split with someone but ideally we’d like to get enough to do an album. We’ve been going since 2005 so we should have an album, it’s embarrassing man. But for now we’re just content to be gigging again.

.

ZT: Fair do’s. The last words are all yours…

.

ES: Cheers for the interview, and cheers to anyone reading it/checking us out. For anyone coming to the Underworld gig, get there for the start. All bands will be worth seeing.
