For fans of Sacramento based noiseniks Deftones, the news of bassist Chi Cheng’s car accident in November 2008 was a bitter blow, the 60 mph collision left Cheng in an unconscious and serious condition.
A little over three years down the line there seems to be promising news as it was announced via One Love For Chi, (the site set up for well wishers as well as to help Cheng’s family with his care and medical expenses) that he is showing great signs of improvement and is now in a partially conscious state, being able to respond to sounds and commands such as raising his legs when requested by doctors. A post via the official One Love for Chi site stated, “It’s little baby steps like this that bring Chi closer to recovery.”
There is still a long way to go before the Deftones four-stringer makes it back to full health but it is great news indeed for his family, band mates, and fans who have followed his ordeal from day one.
