Iceland’s Cult Of Lilith recently released their debut full-length album, Mara, via Metal Blade Records a few short weeks ago. The group, which was formed in Reykjavik in 2015, released their EP, Arkanum in 2016. Since releasing their EP the band has continued to evolve with the addition of vocalist Mario Infantes Ávalos in 2018.
Guitarist Kristján Jóhann Júlíusson had the following to say about the recording of Mara: “Stylistically, Mara is way more diverse and refined than Arkanum, but still retains some of the essential ideas of composition. There was another vocalist at the time and since their styles are so different, it has made a big impact on the progression of the band. Mario has great range, so he fits very well with our diverse music. There is also a big difference in sound: Mara is much heavier, in your face and beefier than Arkanum, thanks to the amazing Dave Otero who mixed and mastered the album.”
With their interesting blend of progressive and classical elements to extreme metal, Cult Of Lilith are looking to place Iceland as a must stop on the world metal map.
