Jon Levasseur, guitarist for Canadian death metal band Cryptopsy, will be absent during the band’s upcoming Canadian trek to support their new self-titled album. So far, there has been no word on why Levasseur will be sitting out the tour, but filling in his spot will be none other than former Cryptopsy bandmate Youri Raymond.
Raymond joined the band in 2009, eventually switching his instrument roles, and parted ways with the band amicably in late 2011, stating “As a musician, moving from guitar to bass was a great challenge, but honestly, I never really felt comfortable in that position and my motivation in general was stagnating.” He would be replaced by Olivier Pinard (Neuraxis) who still maintains that position in the band.
Cryptopsy has had somewhat of a revolving door of bandmates since its inception in 1992, with a total of 13 members departing. The only constant member has been drummer Flo Mounier, with Levasseur coming in a close second, having joined the band in 1993, and departing in 2005 for a 6 year absence.
The band’s forthcoming album, its 7th studio release, is set to hit the streets of the US on 20th November, but was released elsewhere on 11th September of this year. Pre-orders for the album can be made via the bands website.
