With only a matter of days between the last announcement, Bloodstock Festival grace us with more good news, with the addition of seven more bands!
.
To begin with, something for the main Ronnie James Dio stage, as Norwegian ‘blackjazz’ act Shining are confirmed for a Friday performance! This Scandinavian mob are intriguing, with their avant-garde mix of jazz, prog, and metal, citing varied influences from John Coltrane to Nine Inch Nails. Very much worth checking out! Joining them on the same day, but on the Sophie Lancaster Stage, are folk metal pioneers Skyclad. The band played the first ever Bloodstock at Derby’s Assembly Rooms back in 2001 and are very much looking forward to getting a ‘jig-pit’ going once again at the 2014 edition. Guitarist Steve Ramsey will be pulling a double duty over the weekend, as he also plays in Sophie’s Sunday headline act, Satan (for those who didn’t know).
.
Another Friday billing for the Sophie Stage are Brit riffmeisters, Krokodil. Featuring members of Gallows, Cry For Silence, Sikth, and Hexes, the chaps describe themselves as “mostly beards and riffs”! For the same stage, but this time on Saturday, are London heavy rockers The Mercy House. The five-piece make their return to these hallowed grounds, after pulling off a stonking set at the festival’s Jagermeister stage in 2012.
.
Sunday’s bill on the Sophie Lancaster stage is beginning to take shape, with all of the following acts being added to the line-up. First up are Swedish hellraisers, Avatar. This performance marks the group’s return to the UK, who are presently gearing up for the release of a brand new album, recorded in Thailand. Accompanying them are melo-death Brummies, Morgue Orgy, who are set to return to Catton Park with a vengeance. The band has proclaimed: “We are truly honoured and excited to play Bloodstock after what has been a busy 2013, recording and releasing our début album, The Last Man On Earth. We can’t wait to get onstage and perform our best set for the Bloodstock crowd, and if our 2010 set on the New Blood Stage was anything to go by, we know it’s going to be an awesome atmosphere inside that tent! Let’s get ready to party! Rot n’ Roll!”.
.
Wrapping up this bulletin is the announcement that Brit post-punk hardcore troupe, October File, will be storming the Sophie stage also on Sunday. Fans hoping to hear new tunes are in for a treat, as the band are set to release their long-awaited new concept album, The Application Of Loneliness, Ignorance, Misery, Love And Despair – An Introspective Of The Human Condition, via Candlelight Records this May (their first new music in 4 years).
.
With the three headliners already confirmed for 2014, the event is shaping up to be killer. Friday night’s bill toppers are NOLA kings, Down. Joining them to close proceedings on Saturday are black metal legends Emperor, and to play us out on Sunday are thrash titans Megadeth. Other acts billed so far include Carcass, Primordial, Lacuna Coil, Amon Amarth, Obituary, Crowbar, Hatebreed, Prong, Children Of Bodom, Saxon, Primordial, Decapitated, Flotsam & Jetsam, Biohazard, Revamp, Orphaned Land, Aborted, Rotting Christ, Satan, Sister Sin and many more! Further band announcements are to follow shortly, so watch this space!
