As the middle of January approaches, the good people at Bloodstock Festival provide us with another action-packed band announcement (being the first one of 2014!).
.
To kick things off, US metal/hardcore legends Biohazard are added to the Ronnie James Dio stage. Vocalist/guitarist, Billy Graziadei, had the following to say on the band’s debut appearance at the festival: “We’ve watched some awesome Bloodstock lineups over the past few years and we’re very psyched to be part of this one! See you in da pit!”.
.
The second band added to the bill are Dutch symphonic metal act, Revamp, who are fronted by current Nightwish vocalist, Floor Jensen. About the Bloodstock slot, Floor comments: “Revamp is thrilled to play at Bloodstock this summer! It’s a great festival with a strong metal heart in a metal-loving country for which we have nothing but great memories. We can’t wait to rock the British crowd again!”.
.
Pioneering Israeli progressive metallers, Orphaned Land (pictured), also join the lineup. The band are noted for bringing together fans of differing religious backgrounds and were even the focus of a 2012 online petition by followers, nominating them for the Nobel Peace Prize. “I could never imagine in my wildest imagination that an Israeli band would be followed by thousands of Muslims from around the world”, commented frontman Kobi Farhi, however that is exactly what has happened. In Turkey (the only Muslim country where they are permitted to play), the band put on large shows where fans travel great distances, from countries like Egypt, Iran and Jordan to see them play.
.
To round up this latest announcement, Belgian death metal outfit, Aborted, pick up an early main stage slot for the 2014 edition. The band have just entered the studio to record new album, The Necrotic Manifesto, which is due for release this summer via Century Media. Like all of the bands in this announcement, this will be Aborted’s first time at the Catton Hall event.
.
With the three headliners already confirmed for 2014, the event is shaping up to be killer. Friday night’s bill toppers are NOLA kings, Down. Joining them to close proceedings on Saturday are black metal legends Emperor, and to play us out on Sunday are thrash legends Megadeth. Other acts billed so far are Carcass, Primordial, Lacuna Coil, Amon Amarth, Obituary, Crowbar, Hatebreed, Prong, Children Of Bodom, Saxon, Primordial, Decapitated, Flotsam & Jetsam and Evil Scarecrow. More band announcements are to follow shortly, so watch this space!
