Gothenburg’s melodic death metal pioneers At The Gates will be embarking on a European tour this winter that includes five UK dates.
After Zero Tolerance’s newest cover stars recently announced they are working on their first studio album since 1995’s Slaughter Of The Soul, their first European tour since 1996 comes as an added bonus. Joining them on the adventure will be Swiss extremists Triptykon (except Finland/Sweden dates) and fellow Swedes Morbus Chron (except Finland dates).
Speaking about the At War With Reality Tour, vocalist Tomas Lindberg said: “As we have been playing only festivals in Europe since the reunion in 2008, this will be the first chance for us to meet the fans of Europe in a more intimate environment. Playing live for our own crowd, our own people in smaller clubs is something that is essential to us as a band and we are looking forward to finally being able to deliver a full At The Gates show in this setting, without having to work around the schedules and conditions of bigger festivals. It will also be the first time ever that we will be able to present some new compositions in a live setting – as the new album will be released by then. It’s hard and uncompromising and I think the new songs will work great live next to the old songs.”
As for the support, Tomas feels it couldn’t be more perfect bringing Triptykon out with them seeing as Celtic Frost proved such an inspiration for him early on.
Tomas continued: “We couldn’t be more thrilled. I have always looked upon the work of Thomas Gabriel Fischer as a great source of inspiration. From naming my first band, Grotesque after a line in a Celtic Frost song back in 1988, to the mighty comeback with his new reincarnation with Triptykon. Seeing them live every day for three weeks will be mind-blowing.”
Morbus Chron are nothing to be sniffed at too, and Tomas can see a few parallels between them and At The Gates in their early days.
“They have just released one of the most exciting albums of modern death metal in a long while. They remind me so much of the spirit of early At The Gates. It’s as if every note is important and fills a certain purpose. It’s dark, it’s beautiful and it’s sincere. One of the most outstanding ‘new’ bands for sure.”
Understandably both bands are more than pleased to be given the chance to trek across Europe with At The Gates for the first time in nearly 20 years. It will provide a great opportunity for any fans unfamiliar with their work to acquaint themselves in preparation for what promises to be a great way to end 2014.
Triptykon Guitarist/vocalist V. Santura said: “Personally, I consider it a great pleasure and feel proud to join the mighty At The Gates on tour, who are one of the most influential extreme metal bands of the early 90’s. ‘Slaughter of the Soul’ has been among my favourite albums for a long time. After having confirmed numerous festivals, touring with At The Gates is another great opportunity to present Triptykon to a vast variety of metal fans.”
