LISTEN TO KAMPFAR’S ‘EN HYMNE TIL URD’ HERE!
Something a bit different for you here… In collaboration with our good friends at Season Of Mist, we’re pleased to give you the chance to listen to a track by Kampfar from the label’s forthcoming double-CD of folk-inspired songs, One and All, Together, for Home. Featuring tracks from the likes of Drudkh, Primordial and Winterfylleth, the release will see the light of day on May 23rd.
This premiere for the Kampfar track, ‘En Hymne Til Urd (A Hymn For Earth) ‘ will be available to listen to from 15:00 (CET) today until it self-destructs at precisely 23:59 (CET) on 9 April 2014.
Kampfar explain the story behind ‘En Hymne til Urd’: “Former guitarist Thomas Andreassen shaped Kampfar’s sound by taking his piano roots and translating them to the guitar. The song ‘Hymne’, which appeared on the only demo the band recorded, is perhaps the clearest example of his connection between classical music, old Norwegian folk music and black metal. The lyrics on the song were lifted from the Norse poem ‘Voluspå’. In this reinterpretation of the song the band revisits several of the melodies from the original song while also bringing back pieces of the ‘Voluspå’ poem. Vocals by Ask Ty.”
