The monthly NOCTURNAL LUST club has become an (un)official meeting point for London metallers in recent years. Now held exclusively at the Dev/Hobgoblin in Camden and featuring two bands a night, ZT spoke to organiser Katia (also responsible for RedRaven Promotions).
ZT: When did the Nocturnal Lust nights start? When/why did you decide to include bands as well?
Katia: Nocturnal Lust (NL) was launched in February 2008 in what used to be Bar Monsta. First it was only as an after-party for the shows I was organising at the venue, but then we decided to try to do it as separate event as well. There was lack of extreme metal nights like this so we decided to create one… For a couple of years it was held in various venues, mostly aftershows and occasionally on its own. Then in August 2010 we were approached by Dylan (the Master) from the Devonshire Arms (now Hobgoblin) to hold the club nights there. After our first anniversary organising it at the Dev he suggested we add bands, which made me über-happy as I missed promoting. So we grabbed the opportunity and started to book bands again.
ZT: Tell us about the legendary RedRaven Promotions. Did it all start with the Desecration show in 2004 or were you active in promotion earlier?
K: Yes, RedRaven Promotions did start with that gig indeed. I always wanted to do something within the music scene. Being useless with musical instruments, I decided to organise the shows instead, giving bands the chance to play and the London crowd an opportunity to see some bands they hadn’t heard of before, along with more well known ones.
ZT: Any other plans aside from Nocturnal Lust for 2012?
K: Bringing bands to Nocturnal Lust was a success and we are fully booked ’til June next year. So there’s plenty of work ahead, even though it’s only two bands per night. As for other shows I am not sure yet, we’ll see what 2012 brings!
