… Where do you come from, what’s in your band name, and who are your band members?
Skeletal Damage is a no nonsense metal band from Cheshire, the band name comes from a mixture of the various injuries incurred by the band members that seemed to be trying to stop us from getting the band going. For example, the guitarist ripping his shoulder from its socket needing an operation and four months of rehab, mixed in with a name to match the bonecrushing sound of our music, and the likely outcome of those brave enough to enter our mosh pits! … Where are you going musically?
Skeletal Damage is Metallica meets Killswitch Engage meets Megadeth meets Pantera meets Machine Head meets YOUR EARS! We consider ourselves to be the new version of the old school by mixing the best aspects and musical progression of the best modern metal with the feel and delivery of the old school metal scene from which we are all offspring. … What sets you apart from others and what influences you?
Our music is influenced by the bands we like listening to, new and old, the mood we are in, the development of our band as musicians evolving and improving together, our day-to-day life experiences and world events, and from other forms of art we are into, like horror movies for example. It’s a real melting pot that fuses to make Skeletal Damage what it is. …
We think there is a depth and dynamic to our music missing from the typical metal bands on local scenes at the moment, there are a lot of people that are trying to be heavy for the sake of being heavy, or are trying to prove they sweep pick or play drums at 10000000bpm! We remain focussed on what makes a song. Sure, we are heavy and fast at times and technical in our playing and time signature changes but it is all done at the appropriate time. When we do something of the extreme, it has the right impact for the music, and is not about trying to demonstrate that we spend more hours locked away with our instruments than anybody else; that is not what music is about to us. We want to make good music and drink beer and have a f#cking good time at our shows, period. … Why did you select the track included on the ZT covermount to represent you? How does it fit in with the rest of your A Headshot Is The Only Way EP?
This song was selected as our introduction to the ZT readers as it is the first track on our new EP ‘A Headshot Is The Only Way’, which can be bought on iTunes or listened to on Spotify… It demonstrates our core sound perfectly and we hope will get readers to head online to check out the rest of our EP and to come and check out our live show. … Are you very much DIY oriented or have you recorded “professionally”?
This is our first studio recording and we wanted the best sound possible but we only had a four day window to cut it, nonetheless we are more than happy with the end result. …
Like any other band we are dictated to by financial and other surrounding circumstances when it comes to recording but by the end of the year, whether on a label or by ourselves, we will have a album ready to unleash on the world and then the damage train will depart the station. We are urging people to get onboard and strapped in with a cold lager in their hands! … Do you play live and if so, have you any dates coming up?
Playing live is what this is all about to us, I think anybody that has seen us perform will at the very least say we give it 110% and go out to enjoy it with the crowd, we are not there to act like a note perfect military operation, we go balls out every time for maximum fun and good times for everyone watching. … We are playing the DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL opening the red bull stage on Sunday June 12th at 11am, then a post Download party at the Hop Pole in Crewe June 17th. We’re then we are playing everybody’s favourite rock pub the Giffard Arms in Wolverhampton on June 24th. We are waiting for confirmation of a date at the Sugarmill in Stoke in July, and we are playing the the Swan With 2 Necks in Macclesfield with Reign Of Sirius on August 5th. We are looking for dates everywhere and anywhere and people are urged to email us venue suggestions/offers to email@example.com … Do you have an ultimate plan / goal for the band?
To get a suitable deal in place, we are in label discussions already, to have an album out by hook or by crook by the end of the year, make an impression at Download, and importantly, to carry on playing the music we love and having a blast at our live shows, recruiting more and more damagers along the way even if it is one fan at a time! … How can ZT readers hear more?
The EP is streaming on www.myspace.com/skeletaldamage, we have a new www.skeletaldamage.com up shortly, the EP can be bought on iTunes or found in the usual places like Spotify and Grooveshark. We’re sure they will be hearing more of us in the future from the major metal mags, TV etc. Obviously our preference for them to hear more of us is to watch us live, what better chance than the Download Festival?!
