Depressive black metallers Shining have revealed details regarding their upcoming new album.
.
‘Redefining Darkness’, the suicidal Swedes’ eighth full-length, will be released later this year via Spinefarm Records and will feature the band’s trademark odes to misery.
.
Founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth commented: “The new album is without a doubt the darkest thing I have ever done or heard. People will be upset, for sure — and hopefully its divine genius will destroy the lives of thousands.”
.
Unlike previous Shining albums, the title, ‘Redefining Darkness’, will not be preceded by a number, as Kvarforth cryptically states: “The use of numbers to describe our albums is no longer something that Shining is interested in doing”.
.
Shining also recently announced the addition of two new touring members, Euge Valovirta on guitar and Rainer Tuomikanto on drums.
.
A recent press release explained the decision, stating that Valovirta is “one of the most versatile players Shining’s live touring has ever witnessed”, and praising Rainer’s “bombastic groove, hard-hitting solid beats and lightning-fast execution to unbelievably energetic live performances”.
