SCHAMMASCH TO RELEASE THE MALDOROR CHANTS: HERMAPHRODITE IN JUNE

Avant-garde black metallers Schammasch will release their new mini-album The Maldoror Chants: Hermaphrodite on the 9th June 2017.

The follow up to 2016’s highly-rated Triangle (5.5/6 in ZT!) will be the first in a new trilogy of records entitled The Maldoror Chants with a concept inspired by the poetic novel Le Chants De Maldoror. The Swiss band explains that the novel has been an inspiration to them since their second album Contradiction and describe it as “one of surrealism’s dire fathers and up to this day one of the biggest literary mysteries and outgrowths”. Each record in the trilogy is set to follow one specific moment in the book, with the first based on Hermaphrodite, a short story which appears aside the main story line in the book’s first half.

As well as explaining the trilogy’s themes and concept, the band also describes their musical direction as an “artistic experiment, apparently deriving from a different place than what we’ve done so far. Focus lies on telling instead of singing, atmosphere instead of technique, flow instead of structure. Don’t expect anything but explore everything.”

As well as revealing the album’s excellent artwork, the band have also released a teaser trailer for the record (see below) and pre-orders are available via the band’s website.
