Riff samurai High On Fire are gearing up for their new album. The follow-up to 2012’s De Vermis Mysteriis is scheduled for a mid-2015 release via eOne Music.
Having fought their way through the ever-more-neutralized musical landscape of the current century, High On Fire (headed by iconic guitarist/singer Matt Pike of Sleep fame) continue to serve ferocious riff after ferocious riff, wild-eyed performance after wild-eyed performance fourteen years into their career.
The recording of High On Fire’s seventh full-length album is being supervised by producer extraordinaire Kurt Ballou and has so far been recorded in New Orleans, Lousiana and Oakland, California. Early reports indicating the band’s new material to be both “epic” and “sonically huge” sound easy to believe.
Skin-and-cymbal basher Des Kenself explains what the new album sounds like: “Chew on some mescaline and listen to side B of Sabbath’s Master Of Reality backwards at 78 RPM and it might give you an idea.”
