EMERGENCY SURGERY FOR D.R.I. GUITARIST

Spike Cassidy, founding member and guitarist of crossover pioneers D.R.I., is recovering in hospital after recieving emergency surgery due to intestinal complications.

.

Cassidy underwent the surgery late last week for a severe blockage caused by the reversal surgery he had almost a month ago.

.

He is now out of the operating room and being watched closely for signs of infection since his intestines were so stretched out from the blockage.

.

Spike’s fiancée, Jana Perry stated: “[Spike’s] prognosis is good. However, he will need to stay in the hospital another week, give or take a couple days. Needless to say, all D.R.I. shows that are scheduled for the month of October are now cancelled and hopefully we can reschedule them all at a later date. We are bummed. We were looking forward to seeing friends and doing those shows.”

.

Cassidy was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2004 and underwent radiation and chemotherapy, as well as surgery – a foot-long section of his large intestine was removed through an eight-inch incision in his stomach in 2006.
