Chicago thrashers Diamond Plate have apologised after their management launched a competition allowing fans to work as their roadie for a day.
The winner was set to receive the chance to help the band load gear into the venue, take gear on and off stage and load out at the end of the show. The idea seemed to be to give fans an opportunity to literally work with Diamond Plate in return for autographs, pictures and a personal thank you by sharing the competition as much as possible on Facebook.
Releasing a statement via their Facebook page the band said: “As a band we wanted to apologize for all the bullshit on this page in the past two days. It has been an eye opener to NEVER let management or labels come up with ideas to ‘market’ and ‘promote’ the band.
“To anyone who offered to help carry gear – THANK YOU, seriously. It’s humbling to know someone would want to help a band like that, but who the fuck are we to ask or let alone run a contest for that? We carry our own gear every night and play our asses off for anyone who gives us the chance to be heard. Being in a touring band is a privilege that all of you make possible.”
Sadly that makes it appear like some people actually entered. To make things worse anyone hoping to carry their gear around for a few hours wouldn’t even get a free ticket to the show, they needed to already have one. The competition has now been cancelled.
What next, win a chance to lick Lemmy’s wart?
