Dez Fafara, the Californian frontman of Devil Driver and Coal Chamber, has announced the release of a benefit single to support the recovery efforts behind his sister Kerri Pawlowski McCanna’s struggle with breast cancer.
“Dark Meadowlark,” produced by Greg Weiss (Devildriver), and mixed by Logan Mader (Devildriver, Gojira, Soulfly), was inspired by the dark and humorous bond shared by Dez and his sis [hence the contrasting title phrase].
All proceeds go towards covering the costs of Kerri’s surgery, radiation and chemotherapy for the next year, as even with insurance, the family cannot afford these necessities. “As soon as my big brother heard that I had been diagnosed with breast cancer, he unleashed the most powerful healer there is—compassion,” said Kerri.
“The song was mixed by Logan Mader and produced by Greg Weiss, who played bass and balalaika, along with Dan Yob on guitar, and Zac Morris on drums,” adds Dez. He goes on to thank Winson and Doug at Third Encore for allowing them to use their facilities, and also Doug from Rack Attack Rentals for providing the exceptional recording gear.
