Damnation Festival have announced a very special Cult of Luna performance as the third headline act for their 2016 incarnation.
They join the already announced Electric Wizard and a UK exclusive set from Abbath, in the first time the festival has had three joint headliners. Each one is guaranteed at least an hour long set, pleasing fans of all things doom, black and post metal. Plus, it will be a very special performance from Cult of Luna who will be bringing along Julie Christmas and playing their ‘Mariner’ in full in a UK exclusive performance.
The band’s Johannes Persson said: “The stars have aligned perfectly and I am going to have take back what I’ve repeated in numerous interviews this past year: that ‘Mariner’ will not be played live, because it will… There are no plans to perform the album live in the UK again.”
It’s sure to be a magical performance. If none of those whet your appetite (really?), don’t despair. There’s a 25th anniversary performance from black metal merchants Enslaved, UK sludge outfit Bossk playing their debut in full to celebrate its tenth birthday and power violence trio Nails ready to destroy Leeds University Union. Oh, and Akercoke will be turning up, along with Ne Obliviscaris, Black Tusk, Oceans of Slumber, Full of Hell and a further 16 bands to be announced.
Electric Wizard’s Jus Oborn said about the festival: “We are proud to be invited to headline Damnation Festival a second time. Since the last time we have played sold-out concerts and tours worldwide but it is an honour to return to where it ‘began’ at one of the original UK metal festivals that first ‘believed’ in the cult of Electric Wizard.”
Damnation Festival takes place at Leeds University Union on Saturday 5th November.
Tickets cost £38 and are available through the Damnation website.
