Brazilian black metal act Despot have just unleashed a new EP, entitled Pictures of the Void. A follow-up to 2013’s Satan in the Death Row, a sensational slab of progressive black metal that won plaudits across the metal underground, Pictures of the Void is another stunning example of Despot’s unique take on extreme metal.
The brainchild of Despot, Marcelo Murrer, distills his eclectic palette of influences to produce four songs of intelligence, cosmic brutality, sonic finesse and intensity.
Unlike the earlier releases of the band, Pictures of the Void features a drummer, Diogo C, who adds his own unique flair to the proceedings. On previous releases, mainman Marcelo took care of all guitars, keys, programmed drums and vocals. The EP is seen as a precursor for a full length, which will see the light of day in 2016.
