Reacting to the mock outrage expressed by online commentators at the announcement of next year’s Download Festival headliners, organisers have confirmed that death metal act Dying Fetus will, in fact, be playing the UK event in 2014.
After an article by Metal Hammer highlighted some of the festival’s more outspoken critics, the #whynotdyingfetus trend took to social media sites, jokingly insisting that Dying Fetus feature as headliners of Download 2014 in place of Avenged Sevenfold.
Remarkably, festival organisers responded by actually booking the American death metal act to perform at Donington Park in June next year.
Making the announcement from their Twitter account, organisers had this to say: “Right then. You asked us #whynotdyingfetus. We said – why not? @DyingFetusBand are now confirmed to play #DL2014”
This comes after the announcement that Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park and Aerosmith will be playing the main stage at Download 2014.
Download 2014 takes place from 13 – 15 June and tickets are available here.
