Despite a three year hiatus in 2005 and a plethora of line-up changes, Canadian tech-death legends Gorguts are still going strong, and anybody who thinks they’ve peaked are massively misguided, according to founding member Luc Lemay. The powerhouse announced yesterday that “with great joy” they have signed with Seasons of Mist records for their as of yet untitled fifth studio album, which is scheduled for release sometime this year.
Speaking on the album’s conception, Lemay has stated that although “a lot of legal, important factors, far from music composition have held this project in standby,” it’s all behind them. The new album is born from the experiences gained over this time and is “an hour of epic, ambient, dark music which doesn’t compromise its Death metal roots.”
The band evidently want to add a new direction to their music, but whether it will satisfy the die-hard fans is, for now at least, up in the air. It would be a shame to see them end up like In Flames: a band with a great back-catalogue and two factions of fans.
