EDITORIAL STATEMENT
“‘All good things come to those who wait’, isn’t that how the old saying goes? Well, we hope you’ll agree that although the slight delay in getting it out caused you to wait, that it is a rather good issue!
It is regretful that a hitch with the production of this issue forced us to move its onsale date. Some things are unavoidable and as the slightly more contemporary saying goes, ‘Shit happens!’ Moving the publication date isn’t completely without its positives. It has enabled us to bring forward some key features on artists we think you’ll be keen to hear from sooner rather than later - namely: Celtic Frost, who met with Zero Tolerance in New York City to talk about their long anticipated comeback album, Monotheist; Enslaved, who tell us why you shouldn’t (yes, you read it right, *shouldn’t*!) listen to new album Ruun], and Current 93 founder David Tibet, a figure who could teach us all a thing or two about expanding our minds...
All that aside, I’m back at that old chestnut - the dilemma of the magazine’s editorial message. It’s at this point where I sit, frustrated, racking my brain about what to tap away about on my worn (and slightly grubby) keyboard. Well, here’s the dilemma: you’ve either already bought the issue on the strength of the cover; a quick flick through in the newsagents; previous issues; or you’re one of those fickle types who buys it just for the cover CD. This being so, there’s no value in painfully pointing out every ‘groundbreaking’ feature we’ve managed to shoehorn in to this, another issue we’ve so brilliantly compiled (I say this with tongue firmly in cheek) - well, not unless we’re desperate - which we’re not. Or, I could use the space to justify every feature there’s even a slight chance we’ll get stick for including in what purports to be an extreme magazine - but that would just smack of me trying to justify it to myself - in which case it probably shouldn’t feature in the first place. Hmmmmmmm. Okay. Then I suppose there’s the somewhat self-indulgent opportunity to use this space to give the magazine and myself a great big slap on the back. But what for? Doing what we set out to do in the first place? I think not. Instead, I could simply refer you to the contents contained herein and trust you to know why you picked the magazine up in the first place - which we’d hope is probably because you’re as, if not more passionate about extreme music than we are! Well, there’s my little whinge over and done with. Enjoy the issue and don’t forget to keep us on our toes by sharing your views on the magazine, and everything in between, with us...
