EDITORIAL
STATEMENT
"Welcome to another massive 132-page edition
of the extreme music handbook known as Zero Tolerance, and international
salutations go out to any overseas readers who are seeing ZT on their
newsstands for the very first time.
Continuing with our no-nonsense approach, this time we've mustered up
in excess of 60 interviews, almost 200 reviews, numerous specialist
sections, and for the first time, at the request of readers and writers
alike, - ta-da! - a letters page. So as well as letting rip on the Internet
message boards, you can send us your serious/silly missives, in the
hope of provoking an irate/smartarse response from Mr Ives. Send your
letters to the mag address on page 003 or e-mail them to appeals@ztmag.com
For the second time ever, we have ended up with two releases of the
issue, with French favourites Gojira squaring off against Canadian champs
Cryptopsy - and even that was a pretty tough decision to make. It's
really been an impressive two months for quality releases - just check
out this issue's cover CD for evidence.
You'll notice a large chunk of this issue has been devoted to a very
special spotlight feature. Delving deep into the burgeoning array of
folk/black/heathen/mango chutney/Viking/pagan (note: one of these terms
is a red herring) metal acts and the ideologies, principles and traditions
that are such an integral part of this creative movement, we originally
scheduled to run the feature last issue, but decided to postpone the
whole thing another two months, split it in two, and really go to town
on covering this most intriguing black metal offshoot area. I hope you
enjoy the fruits of our (slavish) labour with Chapter One.
And before I forget... Argh! It's Halloween! And appropriately enough,
we've got a Helloween feature and a stupendous competition to match.
Keep your peepers peeled for a pugnacious pumpkin lurking somewhere
in the magazine's pages - and check out page 010 for info on how that
can help you to scoop some heavy metal treasure. Even if you don't win,
at least Christmas is only around the corner. Top tip: As you flick
through the mag, searching for the surreptitious squash, be sure to
drop some (un)subtle hints by alerting potential present-buyers to the
myriad of adverts scattered throughout our pages.
