Where do I start this issue? As I write this the rest of the magazine has already been delivered to the printers, and too much deliberating and refining of these hastily chucked together words is going to hold things up, and really, who cares when you can turn the page and hear from people with much more to say than 'that was a tough print deadline'! So, to cut things short, this issue delivers the second and final The Definitive History Of... War Metal instalment courtesy of Nathan and Cormac, and I promise you, it's killer. If you thought you knew this subgenre, then you may well end up thinking again, I know I did. We've really enjoyed putting this one together for you, so much so that there will be a new-wave of special features cropping up in future issues.
And, it is also with great fondness - and a bit of nostalgia/teenage excitement on my part - that we welcome the very legendary Discharge to our cover; a band who have had such a massive impact on extreme music - whether you know it - or even like it - or not! Daragh 'D-Beat' Markham caught up with the band, and somehow - and don't ask how - managed to decipher a bunch of seemingly indecipherable conversations into a bumper 7-page feature. If ever there were a writer able to transpose a fly-on-the-wall effect in his writing, it's this one, and I think - Discharge fan or not - you'll take something away with you from his brilliant interview.
You might notice too that the Exhume To Consume feature is absent this issue; it turns out that tracking down and coaxing some of these older and obscurer bands to speak is something of a challenge - but believe us when we say that they really are like buses; you wait and wait, and then at least three sets of answers arrive at once, just not exactly when you were expecting them. It might have missed the deadline this time around, but rest-assured, the next few issues are sorted! Right, I've got people shouting at me to get a move on, so enjoy issue 072 and we'll see you again in mid-May.
