Editorial Message

By the time you read this, winter will be well underway, and what better way to keep yourselves warm than with a fiery cover story on the always-contentious Deicide? No strangers to controversy from the very start, in recent years, Glen Benton and co. have gone from strength-to-strength, erasing the foul taste of their phoned-in early Noughties years. And "fiery" is an apt description of Deicide's latest In The Minds Of Evil: nearly 25 years on, the Florida death metal legends show no signs of slowing down nor compromising their still-blasphemous art. Word on the street is that In The Minds Of Evil is Deicide's best album in many, many years...and those folks would be right. Read on as the ever-quotable Benton and fellow founding member/drummer Steve Asheim give one of their most revealing, no-holds-barred interviews yet. See if you can connect some of the dots, too - good fun.

Also of especial note is this issue's Out From The Void - The Definitive History of Crust special. And when we claim "Definitive," we mean DEFINITIVE: Cormac O'Siochain, our preeminent hardcore-punk authority, gives the most exhaustive yet deliciously concise history - and critical assessment - of this oft-misunderstood subgenre you're likely to ever read. And our man digs down in the trenches, getting the first (and final) word from all of the scene's movers 'n' shakers, including folks from Deviated Instinct, His Hero Is Gone, Doom, Gloom, Disrupt, and Dropdead, among other equally influential bands. After reading this, you should be more than qualified to make distinctions between music that's merely 'crusty' and what's good and proper crust. 'Ave it!

Of course, there's loads more great stuff in this issue, which is armed to the teeth as ever. But hey: it's cold, and I don't wanna hold you up, so get reading! More arsenal to be unloaded in the coming year - watch this space.
