Yes, that's Dave Mustaine on the cover. Why? you might ask. Well...WHY NOT? is the better question.
I can hear the catcalls now: "He's not extreme enough," "He lost his way a long time ago," "He's a Christian," "He's an egomaniac," etc, ad infinitum. Which all might be valid arguments, but equally valid is the fact that the man immediately triggers a response. And without fail, that response is as polarised as Mustaine's rhetoric is polarising. He brings out the best in us - or the worst in us - just as he's brought out the best and worst in himself. And what can be more 'extreme' than that?
Personally speaking, putting Mustaine on the cover is a no-brainer: Megadeth's untouchable trifecta of Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?, So Far, So Good...So What!, and especially Rust In Peace were absolutely-fucking-CRUCIAL to my heavy metal upbringing, and surely to hundreds of thousands of other folks in that era. And for the record, I was always more of Megadeth man than a Metallica man. Turns out that Primordial's Alan 'Nemtheanga' Averill was, too - eureka! Let's have one outspoken, opinionated frontman interview another outspoken, opinionated frontman! Watch some sparks fly in what's surely to be one of our most unforgettable cover stories.
But, of course, there's plenty more gold across these pages. We've got some bands you could rightfully call legendary - Autopsy, Immolation, Integrity, Dark Tranquillity, and Black Star Riders, the new band of Thin Lizzy guitar-god Scott Gorham - and then others that are well on their way to legendary status, like Locrian, Altar Of Plagues, Evile, and Jex Thoth among others. No expense is spared in our interrogations of these artists and others. And as always, we have our trusty, you-read-it-here-first regular sections like Rapid Fire, Power Lines, and UGBM, the latter of which you can read about Slidhr, tipped by yours truly for Album Of The Year contention. So, yeah: 'value for money' and all that. As always. What are you waiting for, then? Start cashing in!
