Why can't it ever be easy? Ok, that sounds prattish. But seriously, folks: in my tenure as The Ed thus far, securing each issue's cover story has increasingly become a hassle of Homer-esque proportions. This time around, a good deal of that was my own fault, as I insisted on having two writers handle the cover story on Gallhammer. Yes, two writers. We'd already featured Gallhammer on the cover 20 issues back, and considering how divisive they are amongst the metal public, what better way to illustrate that divergence of opinion/interpretation than having two of our staff writers explore their own truths? Thus, a fresh approach was required, and this is exactly what we got. Setting it all up was another (difficult) thing altogether, but as you'll soon read, it all pays off in the end. You'd be hard pressed to find a more interesting and incisive Gallhammer feature-article anywhere else. And another exciting thing: the inaugural installment of our 'Anger Burning' section! This seems like a long time coming, as Cormac O'Siochain — THE foremost expert on international crust, D-beat, hardcore-punk, Dis-core, and rawpunk — has been among our staff for years and always has his ear to the ground. Well, no time like the present to rectify that void, what with the untimely passing of scene legend Phil Vane; in fact, Cormac was set to feature Phil's latest band Death Dealers just prior to his death. Nevertheless, we'd like to dedicate this inaugural installment of 'Anger Burning' to Phil's memory and his influence on the international HC-punk scene. May the anger forever burn. And hey, where's the cover theme? you might be asking. Answer: there isn't one. And there might not be one for the next issue. Or the one after that. Or even the one after that...or will there? Just keep reading — we'll keep you on your toes, that's dead cert.
